#WHATSNEXT in digital media

When it comes to codecs, the most pioneering technologies are real-time workflow solutions for HEVC and MPEG-H – from the stage to the post-production desk, and from ‘on air‘ to our living rooms or on our mobile devices. Our software-based encoding/decoding JPEG XS SDK is one of the first solutions for media equipment and infrastructures. The JPEG XS standard is specially designed for the requirements of IP-based real-time applications in studio environments and VR/AR applications. AI-based solutions for audio mining and forensic analysis of media content pave the way for technologies that sooner or later will become indispensable parts of systems capable of handling increasing amounts of data, sifting out the essentials, and securing and facilitating workflows.

Fraunhofer Alliance Digital Media

The cooperation of Fraunhofer-Institutes within the Alliance Digital Media provides innovative solutions and products for the digital age of motion picture.

We provide technological innovations for the whole digital media workflow, for immersive viewing and sound experiences. Benefit from our expertise in research and development as well as in standardization.

Profile of the Fraunhofer Alliance Digital Media

In the Fraunhofer Alliance DIGITAL MEDIA four institutes are working together to develop key components for a complete digital media workflow and for multi-format and multi-platform content creation and distribution. The institutes offer research and development in the areas of production, audio systems, data compression, post processing, transmission, projection, distribution and digital archiving.

As an one-stop competence center for digital media we provide for our customers scientific know-how and the development of solutions that can be integrated in workflows and optimize process steps.

The members of the Digital Media Network are actively working in renowned organizations and bodies like International Standardization Organization ISO, ISDCF (Inter-Society Digital Cinema Forum), SMPTE (Society for Motion Picture and Television Engineers), FKTG (German Society for Broadcast and Motion Picture), and in the EDCF (European Digital Cinema Forum). These contributions enable research and development activities based on international standards.
