Hightable Briefing - 13.07.2021: Preservation of audiovisual data in the past, today and tomorrow

The long-term archiving of audiovisual media has always been an important topic, be it for personal, cultural-historical or economic reasons. While the preservation used to take place on the same carrier material as the recording, be it film or videotape, this is different in the digital age. New work processes and formats require a structured approach in the planning of long-term archiving and a defined storage format. With EN17650, a new standard is currently being developed that deals with this filing system. The metadata in particular also play an important role. The lecture sheds light on this new standard under the aspect of how audiovisual data can be enriched with additional information to help with long-term archiving.
